The Virginia Department of Emergency Management (VDEM) works with local government, state and federal agencies and voluntary organizations to protect residents of the state of Virginia from the effects of both natural and man-made disasters and to coordinate and provide resources during emergency situations.

Since early 2017, A Rubin Design has partnered with VDEM on various public awareness campaigns and created numerous publications to help Virginia residents prepare for and recover from various threats and natural disasters. Additional projects include an extensive library of custom social media graphics, implementation of formal brand guidelines and logo policies, marketing of the Know Your Zone coastal evacuation plan, annual reports, internal communications and more.
